Charm City Beasts Episode 9: Body Bag Game II

Tonight on Charm City Beasts! The offensive explosion in the 2nd half against the elite Colts defense causes a reason of optimism again in Baltimore. Lamar Jackson has pointed out that they needed to change the tempo of the offense because in his words opposing teams are calling their plays for them before the play is even called. Lets see what the media thinks of it. BOOM! ARE YOU KIDDING ME SOCIAL MEDIA!!! Stop trying to convince people that the Ravens will fail with Lamar Jackson as well as calling John Harbaugh and Greg Roman OVERRATED! I mean CALM DOWN! EVEN IF LJ WENT 10 FOR 10 IN THE SECOND HALF PASSING AGAINST THE NFL’S FASTEST DEFENSE! THEY STILL THINK THE OFFENSE IS TRASH! In my opinion the media has hated the Ravens long before Action Jackson got there and they think we have been boring since the Ray Lewis and Joe Flacco eras. We are annoying to the media compared to what they call “THE LARGER THAN LIFE” Steelers, as well as Chiefs, or even the Cowboys or Joe Burrow, Tua, and Justin Herbert. This is a recipe for a “Classic Ravens” story, a team that is under the radar compared to other teams with bigger fan bases and likeable names as well as criticism from the media about the Baltimore offense yet beats them all and gets the Lombardi. Time will tell with that story.

Where was I, OH RIGHT! The depth on the Ravens defense was in question after Marlon Humphrey tested positive and Calais Campbell suffered a calf injury last week against Indianapolis yet dominated Philip Rivers AGAIN. With Justin Madabuike and Terrell Bonds stepping in their places for a week, and now the return of Fruit Punch into the lineup the Ravens were looking to add another corner on defense for depth. Example: Tramon Williams, a former postseason hero for the Green Bay Packers in 2010. The only issue for them was that they had YES another positive COVID test. If the player is a scrub we’ll be fine. The good news for the Purple and Black is that Mark Ingram is likely to return to the starting lineup. Considering how well the Ravens have ran the ball the last few weeks, he wants to join in on the fun. The same could be said about Dez Bryant who is also eager to get more involved after not getting a single target last week. All I can say is JUST GET OPEN buddy.

In this week’s showdown the Ravens travel to a place where they are no strangers to in terms of big games. Gillette Stadium in Foxborough for a showdown against the New England Patriots. Unlike previous years, the Pats have struggled to win close games but at 3-5 they are looking to get back in the playoff race. This game also begins a stretch for Baltimore in which they have 4 night games in 5 weeks including 3 away from the most daunting night game destination in the league which is M&T Bank Stadium. Whenever these 2 teams play in the regular season, you know it will be a Sunday Night game regardless of the destination.

Early in this game it was ugly to watch as both teams had problems because of the poor weather that hit the New England area. The worst visions for Ravens fans happened. With Calais Campbell, Jimmy Smith, Dez Bryant and LJ Fort already out, the injuries grew even more. Lamar Jackson, Marquise Brown, Miles Boykin, Nick Boyle, DJ Fluker, Patrick Mekari, Brandon Williams, Derek Wolfe, Tyus Bowser, Marcus Peters, Deshon Elliott, Tramon Williams and Terrell Bonds all either were injured at one point of the game, or left the game for good because of injuries. Thus giving this game the nickname “Body Bag Game II”. In other words a game in which many Marylanders would like to forget. With the injuries on the defensive front the Patriots attacked them all night rushing for 173 yards and 2 touchdowns. As for the offense, they played well excluding the interception at the end of the first half and Lamar playing on a bruised knee in the second half. The real reason for concerns after this game: EVERYTIME BALTIMORE HAD MOMENTUM THERE WOULD BE A BAD SNAP THAT WOULD KILL THEM! It also mentions the fact that Matt Skura was ALSO injured in this game! Look at the significance of this game. The Ravens have now lost 6 straight games while trailing by 10 or more, the defenses 21 game streak of at least 1 turnover is done, their 10 game road win streak is blown out the window, their chances at the AFC North are basically finished, and the worst nightmare any Ravens fan has is now true, They are now tied with the Browns in the standings! I feel like something has to happen in the next few weeks because they have to play Tennessee, Pittsburgh, and Cleveland, as well as a Cowboys team that might be bad but like the Patriots you can never take lightly. DON’T TELL ME THE RAVENS ARE GOING TO MISS THE PLAYOFFS AND HARBAUGH AND THE ENTIRE OFFENSIVE COACHING STAFF WILL GET THE AXE! PLEASE!
