2020 NFL Weekly Recap: Week 2

Bengals vs Browns: Exactly 100 years after the first ever NFL meeting in 1920 the Browns and Bengals went at it in the city where the meeting was held. I had a feeling Cleveland would show their offensive potential by beating on paper an up and coming defense. Even if the Browns struggled to stop Joe Burrow and the Bengals offense the Browns escaped with the victory. Don’t worry Dawg Pound, you aren’t going to trade OBJ and Baker Mayfield isn’t cooked.

Lions vs Packers: There is one reason why the Lions needed to win last week against Da Bears. Because their performance against the Packers was going to happen. Is it me or does Aaron Rodgers have his ridiculous abilities that he had in his prime again. He does. Even if Davante Adams was injured at the end of the game “Mr Discount Double Check” crushed the Lions for roughly the 17th time in his career. Not to mention Aaron Jones put up gaudy numbers too.

Giants vs Bears: The G-Men had a rough week against Pittsburgh last week and now they had to face another top flight defense in the Bears. Even after rushing for 6 yards last week Saquan was due for a big game there would be nothing holding him back, CRACK! He tore his ACL!

Giants fans: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! This injury wasn’t the main reason New York got slaughtered by Da Bears but the offense went stone cold again for much of the game. Even if the Giants had a chance to win like on their final drive Chicago would take it away from them. I am so glad that they didn’t trade Barkley because of this. I would have worried about him joining a certain team.

Broncos vs Steelers: That certain team is the Steelers. It appeared that Pittsburgh could have a 2 headed monster at RB with Benny Snell and James Connor after they had 100 yard games against the Giants and Broncos. The “Leader of Men” in Ben Roethisberger was back to throwing for 300 yards a game and causing havoc to opposing defenses. I will say this. If the Steelers are considered to be the #1 defense in some cases how did they give up 21 points to a backup QB? Even if the Texans are 0-2 Pittsburgh can not take them lightly.

Falcons vs Cowboys: Oh Boy what do we have for a recap of this game!? Nothing serious the Falcons had a 29-10 lead at halftime and it is only getting worse for Cowboys fans. THE FOOTBALL GODS SHOW NO MERCY! Dallas chipped away at the deficit and rallied again and again. Even if the Falcons were falling apart they had a 9 point lead with less than 2 minutes to go. Dallas scored to make it 39-37 not bad just GET THE ONSIDE KICK! They didn’t. Dem Cowboys went down the field and kicked a field goal to win the game. This is the kind of game that I thought should have gotten Dan Quinn fired. They made the same mistakes as the 28-3 game and it once again cost them. THAT IS IMPRESSIVE!

Rams vs. Eagles: We tried warning you Eagles fans about Marty Morninweg! This is the same guy that nearly transformed Lamar Jackson into a wide receiver or running back and ruined Joe Flacco’s prime. Now as OC of the Eagles he hasn’t learned anything from his first stint in Philly on how he wrecked Donovan McNabb. As for the Eagles defense they were no match for Jared Goff and the LA offense. The Rams racked up 37 points against their overhyped secondary. Carson Wentz in my opinion just looks lost and there is nothing he can do. Considering their upcoming schedule the Eagles could be 0-6. It could be Tank Bowl territory for them soon. Your 3 years of insufferable dominance is over Philly, welcome back to mediocrity.

Eagles fans: “OH NO! WE SUCK AGAIN!”

Jaguars vs Titans: Considering how Jacksonville beat Indianapolis last week I wondered what they could do against a potential Super Bowl Contender in Tennessee. The Titans stormed out to an early lead but Gardner Minshew was trying everything he could to give the Jags the win. In fact, he was going toe to toe with Ryan Tannehill in the 2nd half. Even if the Titans kicked a field goal to up by 3 with a minute and a half left, Jacksonville had the chance at victory! Announcer: “Minshew to throw, his pass is PICKED OFF AND THE TITANS WILL SURVIVE!” Even if that drive was a sour ending come back strong next week buddy.

Vikings vs Colts: Minnesota’s offense was once again lost in the first half this time against the Colts. Kirk Cousins threw 3 picks and Jonathan Taylor had his first breakout game for Indy in place of Marlon Mack. The Vikes have one of the hardest schedules in the league and they like the Eagles could be 0-6. As for the Colts everything appears to be fine on defense after last week’s loss in Jacksonville. The good news is that the Colts have a pretty much easy game against the Jets next week.

49ers vs Jets: Speaking of the ButtFumble they once again got blasted by a top flight Super Bowl Contender in the opening games. This time it was the 49ers that did the honors. I think that Sam Darnold is going to end up like Mark Sanchez before him since those two guys had huge upside only to get waisted by the Jets mentality. Not to mention Le’Veon Bell needs the offensive line to step up if he wants to return to prime form. The narratives of New York teams never die. 9ers don’t think we left you out of this. The injuries that killed them in 2018, well their back. Let’s take a look at the list. Jimmy Garropolo, Raheem Mostert, Tevin Coleman, George Kittle, DeeBo Samuel, Richard Sherman, Solomon Thomas, and Nick Bosa. OUCH! That is brutal not to mention that the rest of their division is stacked.

Panthers vs. Buccaneers: The much anticipated home debut of Tom Brady and Gronk at Raymond James Stadium was just what Bucs fans expected. They jumped out to an early lead at 21-0, despite the offense going cold for parts of the game. Even if the Panthers tried to come back the Bucs were going to win the game no matter what. For Carolina they suffered a potential blow to their team. Christian McCaffrey sprained his knee late in the game and is out for a few weeks. Well at least Teddy Bridgewater is playing well I guess.

Bills vs Dolphins: There were many questions about Josh Allens accuracy and passing arm. Yes he can run but can he be an accurate passer they say? That question appeared to be put to bed. Allen with the help of Stefon Diggs carved up the Dolphins defense all day long. 4TD passes, and 417 yards passing. This is the kind of game that sets the tone for a team’s season. Even if the Bills defense was struggling to get Miami off the field at times Buffalo held on to win. In my opinion this game is carma to the people that thought that Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold would be the 2 best QBs of the 2018 Draft Class. As of right now it is Allen and the Reigning MVP in Baltimore.

Washington (Hogs) vs Cardinals: There is a possibility that the trend of 2nd year QBs winning MVP will continue when the season began. The answer was that if anyone can do it it’s Kyler Murray. Against the Hogs he did just that. He had a career game with both his arm and his legs. The defense of Arizona also looks better than in years past. It turns out that many of their players like Jordan Hicks, Patrick Peterson, and Budda Baker as well as Isaiah Simmons have been wrecking opposing offenses. Yes Washington is not good on paper but how will they do against a real team?

Chiefs vs Chargers: It appeared that Tyrod Taylor had rib issues and wouldn’t be able to play against the Chiefs, so who would take his place some people would ask. Perhaps the 2nd coming of Dan Fouts in Justin Herbert. The Chargers jumped out to an early lead thanks to a defense that stopped KC for much of the game. They were up 17-6 at one point. Then just like most games in the last few years Patrick Mahomes happened. The Chiefs stormed back thanks to the bazooka of an arm he has and Tyreek Hill’s world class speed. I think he got away with taking his helmet off after the touchdown to tie the game. The two teams would trade field goals thus sending the game to overtime. I understand why Anthony Lynn decided not to go for it. Field Position and trusting his defense I get that. But here was the problem. Mahomes has carved up the Bolts D since the 4th quarter. Even if that was the case KC had to kick a 58 yard field goal to win. Announcer: “And the kick, looks good and it is good and Kansas City wins it!” Even if LA lost the game the AFC West is getting very interesting.

(Charm City Beasts Episode 2) Ravens vs. Texans: When I heard that Stephen A. Smith picked the Texans to win this game I said to myself “Oh Boy is he going to be wrong!” And he was. This game proved that the debate between Lamar Jackson and Deshawn Watson was one sided in favor of the Ravens. Bill O’Brien learned nothing from the playoff game in Kansas City last year, and went for it on a 4 down in his own territory and failed. What happened afterwards, Touchdown Ravens! Despite the Texans taking advantage of Tavon Young tearing his ACL AGAIN Baltimore stopped them by means of turnovers and sacks. The Texans winning streak of 9 games after a loss ended with the exact same result as last year. A blowout at the hands of RavensNation. I will say though the game next Monday Night against is the most I have wanted the Purple and Black to win since the 2014 playoffs against the Steelers. Why? Because all of the media’s narratives about the Chiefs will be put on hold.

Patriots vs Seahawks: This game in terms of the QB matchup was a rivalry that dates back to 2014. Cam Newton vs Russell Wilson, the Patriots jumped out to an early lead but this was where New England really missed Donta Hightower and Patrick Chung. The Seahawks exposed their replacements all night as they took a 35-30 lead deep into the 4th quarter. But who am I kidding, Tom Brady may be gone but the Pats will pull out a win at the end it happens to almost every team. Announcer: “And Newton is going to be short of the endzone and the game is over!” BOOM! THIS ISN’T THE PATRIOTS WE KNOW AT HEART STOP MAKING THIS UP! That was actually true my friends. Anyways the Seahawks still have control over a tight NFC East. Keep it up!

Saints vs Raiders: The first NFL game ever played in Vegas. The Saints in the first half went into the Raiders so-called Death Star and played around with them taking a 17-7 lead in the second quarter. Darth Vader Theme Playing: It appeared that the Raiders have returned to their old ways of beating teams up in key situations. Derek Carr, Josh Jacobs, Darren Waller, and the rest of the silver and black drowned the Saints for the entire second half as Drew Brees and Alvin Kamara couldn’t get anything going. With the win Vegas improves to 2-0 but to me there is one thing that has to be said. The Raiders are going to be a playoff contender in the AFC again and the AFC West is loaded. WATCH OUT KANSAS CITY!
