Unlike past weeks now that we have the ranked teams back to playing games we will do the ranked teams only for much of the year now. Not to disrespect other schools, the ones we are going over are big headlines. AND I MEAN BIG!
Austin Peay vs. 13 Cincinnati: There is only one reason small schools get to be on National TV so that they can get smacked by a real team for most of the time. This game was no matchup, Cincinnati began its road to redemption on Memphis by destroying a Governor’s team that was cooked before they took the field. When a team racks up almost 600 yards of total offense in college it is against a pretend defense.
19 UL vs. Georgia State: Louisiana’s first game as a ranked team in perhaps school history. They got the matchup of playing a pretend team in Georgia State, they were down 14 early came back and forced overtime. It felt like the Panthers of Georgia State would pull off the upset. THEY DIDN’T! The Ragin Cajuns came back to win the game in overtime thanks to their elite runners. I think they will drop in the rankings after this game but it helps a team if they face adversity down the road.
Syracuse vs. 25 Pittsburgh: Another game in which through 3 quarters the Orange Men are shutting down a high flying offense of a rival that is ranked in the ACC in Pitt. This time the defense didn’t collapse, it was the offense that did. How does a team that has a fast track offense that plays home games indoors go flat for so long? It is because they couldn’t adjust to their opponents defense. TOO BAD!
Tulsa vs. 11 Oklahoma State: Oh Boy what do we have here!? Tulsa was denied an upset over SMU last year but they are going for something potentially even bigger. An upset of a juggernaut in Oklahoma State. Except they blew a 7-3 lead and got smacked in the 4th by the Cowboys high flying offense. 13 points given up to be exact. The upset watch is over Golden Hurricane, BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME!
USF vs. 7 Notre Dame: The game that many people that follow South Florida Football thought would be close turned into a massacre. The Bulls were no match for their far superior opponents in South Bend. The Irish are a pass heavy team yes, but they ran all over a defense that was playing the pass all game long. It wasn’t one particular guy pounding the rock. It was 5 players that dominated. The good news for Notre Dame is that they get the week off since Wake Forest had several of their players test positive for COVID.
14 UCF vs. Georgia Tech: Another Classic matchup paper that became a blowout. The hype surrounding Georgia Tech’s high powered offense was smashed for 60 minutes by the class of the AAC in UCF. 49 points to be exact, this I think could be a learning block for a team like the Yellow Jackets but I don’t know because Dillion Gabriel threw for over 400 yards on them. YIKES.
23 Appalachian State vs. Marshall: Ladies and Gentlemen it appears we have our Upset of the Week. In this case it was the University of Marshall that took the honors this week. Despite giving up nearly 400 yards of total offense to the best small school team in the nation. The Herd stopped the Mountaineers again, and again, AND AGAIN! It appears that Marshall is back on the College Football Map after a statement like this from their defense. Considering their schedule they should be in line for an undefeated season in MAC Conference and a spot in a good Bowl game.
Citadel vs. 1. Clemson: The Trevor Lawrence experiment took its talents back to Death Valley for a showdown against the Bulldogs of Citadel, yep this is going to get ugly. The score may have only been 49-0 but Clemson’s offense was in their students words “Orange Hot”. The funny part is that Lawrence threw 3 TDs and completed only 8 passes. The rest of the team does the rest. LSU YOU BETTER RESPOND NEXT WEEK TO THEIR OFFENSIVE ATTACK IN YOUR GAME!
17 Miami vs. 18 Louisville: This is a game that in terms of where they went to college I call the Battle of Ravens Legends Past and Present. Ray Lewis and Ed Reed vs Lamar Jackson. It appeared the 2 GOATS of Baltimore Football get their yearly Bragging Rights over the Reigning MVP. As for the game itself Miami launched an air assault all over the Louisville defense for 325 yards passing and 3TD passes from D’Eriq King. Even if the Cardinals tried desperately to get back in the game for much of the night the Canes were always one step ahead. With Reed at the head of the Miami program they got themselves the chance at returning to being the power of the ACC along with Clemson.
