UAB vs. Miami: This game was in my opinion what is the beginning of the return to glory for the Miami Hurricanes. They went straight for a pretend team in UAB, and busted out a bunch of big plays all night long. Camron Harris was the player that looked unstoppable for much of the game. He rushed for 134 yards and 2 touchdowns leading the U to a statement win. Congrats to Ed Reed on his first victory as chief of the Miami football program!
Louisiana vs. 23 Iowa State: I was expecting a massacre and what we got was a massacre, on the other end. The Cyclones looked predictable and sloppy for much of the game. It doesn’t help that for much of the game the Cajuns were one step ahead of them. Don’t worry Iowa State next week you get to be attacked by the Sooners.
Missouri State vs. 5 Oklahoma: Speaking of Oklahoma the Sooners roasted their opening game opponents in Missouri State thanks to the trademark Lincoln Riley Pass First approach. Spencer Rattler looked very confident in his first college start throwing for 290 yards and 4 TDs. The Sooner machine is once again looking at everyone in the Big 12 like. “If you want to beat us unlike years past, Play your A Game for 60 Minutes!” That is how they roll.
Duke vs. 10 Notre Dame: The Irish opened their 7th redemption tour in the Brian Kelly era against a dark horse team in the Blue Devils of Duke. This was a low scoring defensive game which matched the weather conditions in South Bend. Kyren Williams showed off his potential by breaking out a pair of big runs to pull away the Leprechauns to a narrow victory. As for Duke they can only pick up the pieces and improve from here. The good news is at least they get BC next week.
Syracuse vs. 18 North Carolina: The Orange Men and Tar Heels went at it in a low scoring defensive battle that appeared to be anyone’s game. The score was 7-6 late in the third, in my opinion Syracuse was poised to pull off a huge upset. BOOM! The Football Gods had plenty of plans for them by the way. That was when UNC finally unlocked their offensive potential and ran all over the Orange Men in the 4th quarter. Who knew that a run only offense would be so predictable and the Tar Heels would expose said offense. Don’t get hyped about the Cuse, they will usually find ways to break their fans hearts.
Arkansas State vs. Kansas State: The game that most people expected to be a shootout this past weekend was right on. Both teams were trading blows and the outcome would be determined by one simple question; Who wants to stop the other team!? That happened to be the Red Wolves. They forced the Wildcats to kick a field goal after a nice long drive with 2:30 left. As long state Kansas State stops them, they are good to go. Announcer: “Bonner to pass, he throws it to the end zone, and it is caught! Touchdown Jonathan Adams!” Arkansas State wins a game that one team had to win. I will say that was a great game either way.
UL Monroe vs. Army: Come one! Come all to the “Armed Forces Lunch Pail Football Mentality!” Witness a run only offense that ran roughshod over a long shot team in UL Monroe. How does it sound for opposing fans if they go up against a team that averages 400+ rushing yards a game. Blasphemous! Not only that they completed only ONE PASS! You heard that right! Come for yourselves and witness this offense destroy everyone in sight. Who am I kidding they have yet to face a real team.
Georgia Tech vs. Florida State: This game appeared on paper as if FSU would win a close hard fought game. Early on it was just that. The Seminoles took a 10-0 lead at the end of the first quarter but after that they were just flat. Every time it appeared that Florida State would gain control, the Yellow Jackets would come right back. This was the kind of game that in which a strong defense can be christened. Georgia Tech wins the game thanks to clutch defensive stands and FSU cried foul. IRONIC!
The Citadel vs. USF: The question in this game was simple; How many QBs will get hurt on USF? They were down to their 3rd string QB at one point. It didn’t matter because the running game did the bare minimum to win because they jumped out to an early lead and the defense stopped the Citadel offense at every turn. If they can’t stay healthy against real teams they will be easy pickins.
1 Clemson vs. Wake Forest: As for the Must C game of the week on paper in College Football, it was quickly a massacre. The Demon Deacons were no match for Trevor Lawrence and the #1 team in the country all night long. Clemson ran up 561 yards of total offense to begin their newest redemption tour. This is what I call an old fashioned kick in the face!
UTEP vs. 14 Texas: The much hyped Longhorns offense got off to a fast start to the 2020 season by beating up on UTEP for 59 points and basically 700 yards of total offense. Sam Ehlinger was the shining star as he threw for 5 TDs with only 8 incompletions. Joshua Moore also had a breakout game with perhaps the tone setter to the season. 78 yards, one play, one score, and they lead! Look out OU, the Longhorns are coming for you AGAIN!
